The Sabers Youth Basketball Organization (formerly Sabers/Saberettes) is a nonprofit, volunteer run organization under the East San Gabriel Valley Japanese Community Center (ESGVJCC), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, which bridges culture, family and community.
Sabers was established in 1970 to give Japanese American youth the opportunity to play organized basketball during a time when they could not participate and complete in other organized basketball programs.
Currently, Sabers has 30 teams, with 275 boys and girls ages 4-18. They not only learn basketball skills, but also foster teamwork and sportsmanship while building a community.
